Spinal Decompression for Disc Problems in Raleigh, NC

Feel like you may be experiencing spinal disc discomfort or problems? Let the trusted doctors at Raleigh Central Chiropractic help you understand and treat what may be causing your spinal disc issues.

First off, spinal discs are the thick cushion like material between each of the vertebrae. The role of the disc is to provide shock absorption, protect the spinal cord, and to ensure flexibility/mobility of the spine. As there are different types of disc problems, we want to share two of the most common reasons why your discs could be bothering you. One, a “bulged” disc, originates from small tears in the outermost fibers of the disc. Another common disc issue, a “protruded” disc, also known as a herniated disc, is a more significant injury. This type of injury occurs when the fibers are completely or significantly torn and some of the inside material leaks through. A herniated disc is more likely to be painful and could possibly cause nerve compression.

Degenerative Disc Disease Treatment Raleigh, NC

Degenerative disc disease is the most common cause of disc problems. The problem begins when the disc develops small tears called annular fissures and spinal adhesions which causes long standing alterations in spinal biomechanics. This is typically an age-related condition that occurs when one or more of the spinal discs deteriorate or break down. The symptoms of degenerative disc disease may be weakness, numbness, and pain that radiates down the leg.

Raleigh Central Chiropractic and Rehab has been trained in a special technique specifically designed to treat spinal disc problems known as Cox Flexion Distraction Technique. This technique is designed to decompress the spine, allowing the nerves to relieve pain and heal the body’s injury of the spinal disc. The Cox Flexion technique has been extremely effective for the treatment of disc problems. It helps to reduce the pressure within the disc space, widen the spinal canal foramen, remove pressure on the spinal nerves, and return range of motion to the body’s spinal joints.

Common signs of disc problems may include: back or neck pain, leg or arm pain, stiffness, and numbness and tingling. Conservative care from chiropractic adjustments have been shown to be a safe and effective treatment for disc problems.
